There ARE answers!

Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) can be managed.

Tantrums, melt-downs, violent rages, hoarding, lying for no reason, sneaky, stealing, manipulation. Do these sound like your kid? Are you frustrated and pulling out your hair because NO ONE GETS IT?? You are in the right place. Welcome to WheatChicken - there ARE answers.

Hi there. My name is Wheat and I want to tell you about raising my daughter, Chicken. (you know these names aren't real, but these names protect my daughter. That was her caveat in order for me to tell you about her childhood). It wasn't easy for her but she gets why I want to do this and help you, so she agreed. Thanks, Chicken. I love you to the Moon and BRRRAAAAPP!!

I didn't raise a serial killer and you don't have to either. Ted Bundy, Adolph Hitler, and Jeffery Dahmer are some famous names that were diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder. Not exactly the footsteps I wanted my Chicken to follow. When she was finally diagnosed and I did my research with her disorder, my heart stopped. Holy crap, this is serious. I had to find a way to make sure that wasn't her destiny. I had to find a way to raise a human being capable of functioning and thriving in society. WheatChicken is our way.

This is one family's journey through Reactive Attachment. Right now, Chicken is 19 and has graduated High School. That is an achievement in itself. There were several times that I seriously did not think she would. (See School Battles). She is planning to go to trade school, is working, and is planning a future. She still has struggles and she works through them as best she can. I am still here to support her, always will be. But the storms that were her childhood are no longer on the horizon. She can see and feel the sunshine and for me that is fan-freaking-tastic.

We are here to offer help as you navigate through the ups and downs, the WTF moments, and the frustration that comes with children diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD). This was not an overnight thing. The rationale was that it was those first early years of neglect and repeated abandonment that molded this child this way. It was logical to me that it would take twice that long to see some results. Know that this is a long road. You will need to see things from a different perspective. I came to think of it as "thinking backwards".

RAD is certainly not rad in the 80's styling of the word, but it is manageable with the right tools, techniques, and even a few tricks. That is where we come in. We have a range of tips, guides, checklists, and techniques to help you manage your child and your life and fill them both with LOVE!!!!.
